Mom With A Camera-The Workshop

Workshop Details:

When: Friday, May 18th from 6:30 pm-8:30 pm and Saturday, May 19th from 10:00 am-2:00 pm.

Where:  Friday evening we will meet at Meg-a-latte and Saturday we will meet at the James Memorial Library.

Cost: $175.00 + tax

What you need:

– A DSLR camera  ( a digital camera that allows you to switch lenses).

Here’s a general list of popular DSLR camera’s:

Good: Canon Digital Rebel T3, Canon Digital Rebel T2i, Nikon D3000, Nikon D5100 ($500-$650 with kit lens)

Better: Canon Digital Rebel T3i, Canon 60D , Nikon D90 ($780-$980 body only)

Best: Canon Canon 7D, Canon 5D MarkII, Nikon D300, Nikon D7000, Nikon D700 ($1500-$2500 body only)

A kit lens is the lens that most likely came with your camera.  If you really want to step up your game, consider purchasing a 50mm 1.8 lens.  This is not required, but I think you will really love how your pictures look when using it and it is awesome to learn with!  Cost is just over $100 for this type of lens.   I am not a Nikon user, but I do know that there are two models of the f/1.4 lens. Autofocus is not supported with the f/1.4D on the D40, D60, D3000, and D5000 camera bodies. Two online equipment stores I like to recommend are B&H Photo, and Adorama.  I will have one extra Canon model available that participants may trial.

– Your camera manual.  If you can’t find your original one, you can most likely find one online.

– A notebook and pen.

What you get:

– A  workbook that will cover everything we go over so that you can continue to refine your skills at home.

– Refreshments Friday evening and lunch on Saturday.

– Drawings for prizes.

– A child model during the last hour of class to practice the new concepts you’ve learned.

What you will learn:

– Learn how to get your camera off ‘auto mode’ by understand the exposure triangle (ISO, Shutter speed, Aperture).

– Learn how to utilize natural light and photograph your children without using your flash

– Tips on getting natural and candid photographs of your children.

– Understanding composition and the difference it can make in your photos.

– At the end of the day on Saturday we will put your new knowledge to use with a little photo shoot!  If it is a nice day we will head outside too.

What this class will not cover:

– Advanced camera techniques

– Editing Techniques

Haugen Family {Williston, ND Family Photgrapher}

I met up with this family at the train depot in town.  Mason is three and is so into trains.  The depot is one of his favorite places to go, so it was the perfect place for his three year old photos and some family shots too.  The depot was full of action this evening and I learned a ton about trains from Mason.

They brought along the new bike Mason got for his birthday and he was happy to show me his new skills!

Wold Family

Last weekend I met up with this sweet family!  We had planned for indoor photos when they booked their session, but the weekend was much too nice to stay inside:)  Here are a few favorites!

I last photographed Blake when he was a tiny newborn!  He is 18 months now and has such a great little personality!

Sigurdson Family {Williston ND Family Photographer}

This family had contacted me to set up an appointment for an outdoor winter family photo.  When we saw last weekend had highs in the 40’s, we decided to set up the session.  The frost hung around almost all day and made a great backdrop.  We quickly grabbed some outdoor shots and then headed inside, even a “warm” North Dakota winter is cold for little ones.

Suess Family {Williston ND Family Photographer}

I had the chance to meet up with the Suess Family the day before Christmas for a quick shoot while the whole family was home.  With families quite spread out these days, it is so fun to see a whole family together, especially during  the holidays!  We lucked out with some great weather this day, can you believe how nice it has been?  Here are a few pictures before I head out the door again!
